DRAFT MINUTES

The annual meeting of the District of Columbia Registered Parliamentarians Unit met on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at 2:30 p.m. at the Dorothy Heights Library located on Benning Road, N.E., in Washington, D. C. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Dr. Rose Acker-Mclver, PRP, at 2:30 p.m.
MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Steven J. Berke, RP: Robin Browder, Patricia A. Cauley, RP, Barbara H. Elzey, RP, Lorraine W. Johnson, RP, Jerome Molver, Dr. Rose Acker-Molver, PRP, Linda A. Smallwood, RP, Dr. Jahnette Steward, RP. Belly Tunstall, PRP, Marjorie Vaughan, RP

OPENING CEREMONIES. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Jeromo Mclver and Ms. Barbara H. Elzey, RP, read an inspiration entitled “Today I Smiled.”

SECRETARY PRO TEM. It was moved by Barbara H. Elzey, RP, and seconded by Betty Tunstall, PRP, that Lorraine W. Johnson, RP, serve as secretary pro tem.. The motion was carried.

AGENDA. The Agenda was adopted as printed by a voice vote. The February 10th minutes were read by the secretary pro-tom. The names of two individuals were not included in the list of persons attending the meeting: Patricia Cauley and Betty Tunstall, PRP. Without objection, the February 10th minutes were approved as corrected.

TREASURER’S REPORT. Mr. Jerome Melver indicated that the books were in the possession of the Auditor.

Linda Smallwood, RP, had no auditor’s report because she had not received the bank statement for the end of March, Mr. Molver presented her with the report.

REPORTS OF OFFICERS:
Rose Acker-Molver reported on her activities since the last meeting. She has attended many meetings and written articles for newsletters. She served as presider for the District of Columnbia Annual Meeting held at the Alpha Kappa Alpha Building, 4411 14th Street, N.W., Washington, D. C. Former National President Dr. Maurice Henderson was the guest speaker. He provided pertinent information that would be helpful to anyone attending a convention. SINE

BYLAWS COMMITTEE. It was moved by the Bylaws Committee and seconded by Jerome Molver, RP, that the revised bylaws submitted by the bylaws committee be substituted for the current bylaws with the proviso that they take effect at the close of this meeting.
It was moved by Barbara H. Elzey, RP. and seconded by Robin Browder, RP, that forty-five minutes be allotted to a review of the submitted bylaws. The motion was carried.
It was moved by Jerome Mclver, RP, and seconded by Jahnette Steward, RP, that the president shall appoint the chairman of all committees except the Program Committee and shall appoint all the members of standing committees.

It was moved by Linda A. Smallwood, RP, and seconded by Jerome Mclver, RP, that the District of Columbia Registered Parliamentarian Unit may conduct its meetings by telephone and that at such meetings a roll call will be taken. The motion was adopted. 7 – voted for; 0 – opposed.

It was moved by the Patricia Cauley, RP, and seconded by Robin Browder, RP, that dues be raised from $4 to $12… The motion carried.
(Members must be notified of the dues change. Dues will be paid in January (calendar year).)

A special meeting will be called by the President to complete the agenda items not covered. An adjoured meeting may be held in May or June to accomplish this. Our next regular meeting is September 15, 2019.

Without objection, it was moved by Jerome Molver, RP, that the meeting be adjourned at 4:33 p.m. to meet at the call of the President. The motion carried.

DRAFTMEETING MINUTES
November 14th, 2018

The regular meeting of the District of Columbia Registered Parliamentarians Unit was held on November 14th, 2018, at the Dorothy Heights-Benning Rd., neighborhood library. President Ferial Bishop, PRP called the meeting to order at 2:31 PM. The secretary was present. 

Members in Attendance. The members present were Betty Tunstall PRP, Linda Smallwood RP, Jerome McIver RP, Dr. Rose Acker-McIver PRP, and National Vice President Darlene Allen, PRP.

Opening Ceremonies. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited in unison and John Tatum gave the inspirational reading entitled “Success.”

Agenda.  The agenda was approved as distributed.

Minutes. The minutes where approved as corrected. (The District II Conference was held at the “Omni Resort” in Hot Springs, Virginia.)

Reports of Officers.

The treasurer reported a beginning balance of $468.85 and an ending balance of  $480.85. The President attended the executive board meeting of the DCAP and that she attended Parliamentary law Day, October 27 2018, at the Prince George’s Community College. She also attended a Hopson unit meeting.  The president purchased one of the newest items at the NAP store, which was a NAP jacket. Vice president Rose Acker-McIver attended the District II conference along with 42 other members.

Reports of Committees.

Arrangements Committee. Marjorie Vaughn reported that she had a room reservation for the November meeting, but it is too early to confirm reservations for the Feb. meeting.

Bylaws Committee. Without objection, the proposed bylaw amendments that were noticed with the call of the meeting, be postponed to the next meeting. (Feb. 2019)

Directory. The president would like for a directory to be updated and published and is soliciting the help all members who have information, to help put it together. Robin Browder is working on the directory.

Program.  Without objection, the education program will be postponed to the next meeting. Linda Smallwood will be the presenter.

Webpage Committee. The chair of the committee, Jason Morgan, will be contacted to see if he is still interested in chairing this committee.  John Tatum and Robin Browder volunteered to serve on this committee. 

 Unfinished Business. The audit report will be postponed to the November meeting.

Education Program. Dr. Rose Acker-McIver, PRP gave the educational presentation on “Postpone to a Certain Time.”

Announcements. 

Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 4:12 PM.

DRAFT MINUTES
September 16th, 2018

Call to Order. The regular meeting of the District of Columbia Registered Parliamentarians Unit was held on September 16th, 2018, at the Dorothy Heights-Benning Rd., neighborhood library. President Ferial Bishop called the meeting to order at 2:35 PM. The secretary was present. 

Attendance. The members present where Rose Acker-McIver, Barbara Elzey, Marjorie Vaughn, Robin Brower, and Betty Tunstall.

Opening Ceremonies. John Tatum led the Pledge of Allegiance and Robin Brower gave the inspirational reading entitled “ The Blessing of Encouragement.”

Introductions. The president asked for each person present to give a brief introduction of him or herself. The president appointed Betty Tunstall as the Parliamentarian.

New Members.  Robin Brower joined the unit.

Agenda.  The agenda was approved as distributed.

Minutes. The minutes where approved with a correction on the number of meeting reservations that have been confirmed. 

Reports of Officers. 

The President. The president reported that she attended the Leadership Training Conference held in Buffalo, New York. She mentioned that there are new Materials for sale at the National Association of Parliamentarians bookstore. If you are interested in what’s new, contact Rosalie Stroman. The president reported that there is a new Committee on credentialing and there is also a new exam process. She encouraged members to hurry taking the exams so that they will be under the current process. The president informed members that the biennial NAP convention will be held Sept. 5 – 9, 2019.

Vice President.  The vice president reported that she has an educational program set for November and she is still waiting to confirm educational programs for the February and April meetings. The vice president reported that she is on the planning committee for the District II Conference.  The vice president reported that she has a copy of the audit report that she got from the treasurer, and she will give a copy to the president and to the secretary.

Reports of Committees.

April 8, 2018

Call to Order. The regular meeting of the District of Columbia Registered Parliamentarians Unit held on April 8, 2018, at the Dorothy I. Height-Benning Neighborhood Library, was called to order by President John Tatum (PRP) at 2:35 P.M.

Attendance. In addition to the president, the following members were present: Secretary Betty Tunstall (PRP). Treasurer Rose Acker-McIver (PRP), Barbara Elzey (RP), Calvin Ferrell (RP), Lorraine Johnson (RP), and Marjorie Vaughan ({PRP). Also in attendance were guests Jerome McIver (RP), member of the McCaskill Unit; and Linda Smallwood (PRP), member of the Sartwell-Tunstall Unit.

Opening Ceremonies. An inspirational message was read by Jerome McIver after which The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America was recited in unison by the attendees.

Introductions. The president asked all in attendance to introduce themselves. New Members. Guests Jerome McIver and Linda Smallwood joined the unit and were welcomed by President Tatum.

Agenda. The agenda was adopted as distributed. Minutes. The minutes of the regular meeting held February 11, 2018, were approved as read.

Annual Reports of Officers.

President. President Tatum submitted a written report detailing his activities during the term. These included attendance and/or participation in Parliamentary Law Day, the annual meetings of the Maryland and District of Columbia associations of parliamentarians, member of the NAP Education Resources Committee, member of the DCAP Registration and Education Committee and monitor for members taking the NAP Registered Parliamentarians Exam. A copy of the president’s report is attached to these minutes.

Secretary Betty Tunstall reported orally that she had attended all meetings during the term and had fulfilled the duties of her office.

Appointed Position. Arrangements Chairman Marjorie Vaughan reported orally that she had successfully secured a meeting room for all four of the term,’s meetings.
Elections. Election of Officers. Report of the Nominating Committee. The president read the report of the Nominating Committee in the absence of the committee’s chairman. The nominees were:

Betty Tunstall withdrew her nomination for the office of vice-president.

The president called for nominations from the floor. There was no nomination from the floor for any office. Rose Acker McIver, President Tatum, and Jerome McIver, volunteered to serve in offices of vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, respectively.

Results – Election of Officers. After nominations were declared closed the following officers were elected by voice as permitted by the Unit’s bylaws:

New Business.

September 2018 Unit Meeting. The president reminded the unit that the date of its regular meeting in September is the 9th of that month and will conflict with the NAP National Training Conference scheduled for September 7th to 9th. Rose Ackerth McIver moved that the date of September meeting be changed to September 16th. The motion carried.

Unit Web Page. President Tatum announced that the unit’s web page is free and that Jason Morgan, a member of this unit, has paid $22.98 to renew the unit’s name domain for the period February 2018 through January 2020. Mr. Morgan does not expect to be reimbursed.

Education Program. The president introduced Marjorie Vaughan who presented the education program on the motion to take from the table.

Also in attendance was guest Lorraine Johnson (RP), member of the Prince Georges County (Maryland) Unit.

Minutes. The minutes of the regular meeting held November 12, 2017, were approved as corrected.

President. President Tatum reported the following: 

  1. He attended the annual meeting of the Maryland Association of Parliamentarians where he was appointed chairman of the Association’s bylaws committee;
  1. Payment for the DCRPU website was due on February 8. The web address is  http://www.dcrpunit@wordpress.com; and 
  1. DCRPU dues for 2018, at $4.00 per member, are due today. 

Without objection it was agreed to postpone a decision on payment for the website to the April meeting.

Special Order – Appointment of Audit Committee. Without objection, Ferial Bishop and Mary Grant were appointed to the audit committee. The committee will receive the treasurer’s books at the end of this month (February) and report at the unit’s annual meeting. 

New Member. Guest Lorraine Johnson joined the unit and was welcomed by President Tatum. 

Education Program. Vice-President Ferial ;Bishop introduced Betty Tunstall who presented the education program entitled “On Second Thought.” The program covered the motions to reconsider, reconsider and enter on the minutes, and rescind

Announcements. Marjorie Vaughan, president of the District of Columbia Association of Parliamentarians (DCAP), announced that the DCAP annual meeting will be held on March 31, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., at Joint Base Henderson Hall, Fort McNair Officers Club, 4h and P Streets, S.W., Washington, DC. The registration fee is $50.00 and individuals and groups may purchase full-color or black and white ads for the program booklet.

Call to Order. The regular meeting of the District of Columbia Registered Parliamentarians Unit held on November 12, 2017, at the Dorothy I. Height-Benning Neighborhood Library, was called to order by President John Tatum (PRP) at 2:35 P.M. A quorum was not present, and the president immediately declared the meeting in recess. 

Reconvene. The meeting reconvened at 2:44 P.M. 

Attendance. In addition to the president, the following members were present: Secretary Betty Tunstall (PRP). Ferial Bishop (PRP), and Marjorie Vaughan ({PRP). Also in attendance was guest Michael Swift, PRP, member of the Maryland Association of Parliamentarians.

Reports of the President. President Tatum reported the following: 

  1. He attended Parliamentary Law Day on November 4 and was quite impressed with the materials distributed to the attendees and with the presenters who included Darlene Allen, Thomas “Burke” Balch, James “Jim” Jones, and Wanda Sims. 
  2. He participated in hosting the DCAP exhibit at the convention of the Family Career 

and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), a national organization of high school students who want to develop skills for leadership in the future. 

  1. The web site must be updated on a regular basis and that editors are needed to 

assist in this. Interested persons should get in touch with Website Committee members Jason Morgan and Mary Grant. 

  1. He has the youth packet at today’s meeting for submission to Darlene Allen. 

Education Program. Vice-President Ferial ;Bishop introduced Michael Swift (PRP), president of the Maryland Association f Parliamentarians, who presented the education program entitled “It is Different.” The program covered renewal of motions. 

Announcements. President Tatum announced that (1) The AIP West Coast Practicum will be held February 8-10, 2018, and (2) the annual meeting of the Maryland Association of Parliamentarians will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017.

DRAFT MINUTES September 17, 2017 

Call to Order. The regular meeting of the District of Columbia Registered Parliamentarians Unit held on September 17, 2017, at the Dorothy I. Height-Benning Neighborhood Library was called to order by President John Tatum at 2:40 P.M. The secretary, Betty Tunstall (PRP) was present. 

Attendance. In addition to the president and secretary, the following members were present: Rose Acker-McIver (PRP), Darlene Allen (PRP), Ferial Bishop (PRP), Loreathea Fields (PRP), Wanda Nelson (PRP), Wanda Sims (PRP), and Marjorie Vaughan ({PRP). Also in attendance were guests James Jones (PRP), president of the National Association of Parliamentarians, and Jerome McIver. The president extended a welcome to all attendees. 

Opening Ceremonies. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America was led by President Tatum and followed by an inspirational message by Loreathea Fields (PRP). 

Agenda. The agenda was adopted as amended. 

Minutes. The minutes of the April 9, 2017, meeting were approved as corrected. 

Reports of Officers, Boards, and Standing Committees. 

Officers. 

President John Tatum reported that (1) He attended the NAP convention in Lombard, IL as a delegate, and (2) no decision has been made as to what to do with the youth packet. 

Treasurer Rose Acker-McIver reported the following: Balance on hand April 9, 2017, $429.85; receipts since that date, $20.00; no disbursements since that date $50.00; and current balance on hand of $449.85. 

Recognition of NAP Officers in Attendance. The president recognized the NAP officers present: President James (Jim) Jones, Vice-President Darlene Allen, and Treasurer Wanda Sims. Each of them expressed thanks to the unit for its support during the last biennium. 

Education Program. Vice-president Ferial Bishop introduced Wanda Nelson who presented the education program titled “Jeopardy the NAP Way.” This was a game in the jeopardy format, where the answers were provided and the members, who had been divided into three teams. volunteered the correct questions. 

New Business – Disposition of Youth Packet. Marjorie Vaughan moved that the unit donate the youth packet to the DCAP Education and Registration Committee. The motion carried. 

Announcements. DCAP president, Marjorie Vaughan, announced that (1) Parliamentary Law Day will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on November 4 at the Largo campus of Prince Georges Community College; (2) DCAP has been invited to set up an exhibit at the fall convention of FCCLA and is seeking volunteers(at a cost of between $45.00 and $50.00 each) to assist at the exhibit table; and (3) the Prince Georges County Unit will hold its regular meeting at 6:45 p.m. at the Bowie Library, 1510 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD, on Monday, September 18.

Adjourned Meeting – September 17, 2017

Call to Order. The meeting adjourned from the April 9, 2017, meeting of the District of
Columbia Registered Parliamentarians Unit was called to order by President John Tatum at 2:30 P.M. on September 17, 2017, at the Dorothy I. Height-Benning Neighborhood Library. The secretary, Betty Tunstall (PRP), was present.

Attendance. In addition to the president and secretary, the following members were
present: Rose Acker-McIver (PRP), Darlene Allen (PRP), Ferial Bishop (PRP), Lorethea
Fields (PRP), Wanda Nelson (PRP), Wanda Sims (PRP), and Marjorie Vaughan (PRP).
The following guests also were present: James Jones (PRP), president of the National
Association of Parliamentarians, and Jerome McIver. The president welcomed all
attendees.

Election of Officers. The president announced that the first item of business was the
election of officers, which had been postponed to this meeting, and called for the report of the nominating committee.

Unit parliamentarian, Darlene Allen, presented the report of the nominating committee,
which had been sent to her by Mary Grant, the committee chairman. The committee’s
nominees were the following:

Call to Order.  The regular meeting of the District of Columbia Registered Parliamentarians Unit held on February 12, 2017, at the Dorothy I. Height-Benning Neighborhood  Library was called to order by President John Tatum at 2:30 P.M. The secretary, Betty Tunstall, PRP, was present. Marjorie Vaughan, PRP, was appointed to serve as parliamentarian for the meeting.

Attendance.  In addition to the president and secretary, the following members were present: Rose Acker-McIver (PRP), Ferial Bishop (PRP), Rosalie Stroman (PRP), and Marjorie Vaughan (PRP).  Also in attendance was guest Jerome McIver. The president extended a welcome to all in attendance.

Opening Ceremonies.  An inspirational message was read by Rosalie Stroman, PRP, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, led by Ferial Bishop, PRP.

Minutes.  The minutes of the September 11, 2016, meeting were approved as corrected.

Reports of Officers, Boards, and Standing Committees.  Reports were presented by the president and treasurer as follows:

Treasurer Rose Acker-McIver.  Balance on hand November 13, 2016, $439.85; receipts since that date, $12.00; no disbursements since that date; current balance on hand of $451.85.

President John Tatum.  (1) Named, for the record, the follkowing materials received from former president, Barbara Miller: the DCRPU “Information Manual”; Best of NAP; Flag Etiquette (published by the American Legion); a gavel and sounding block; and a retractable American flag; and  (2) reported that the DCRPU website (dcrpunit.wordpress.com) is up and running and that Jason Morgan and Mary Grant will serve as the website committee.

Copies of these reports, showing detail, are attached to these minutes.

New Business.  The president informed the Unit that at a meeting of  the executive board on November 2, 2016, it was decided to cancel the regular meeting scheduled for November 13 because that was the weekend of the District Two Conference, which most of the Unit’s members, including the scheduled presenter of education program, planned to attend.

The president announced that John Stackpole (PRP) has volunteered to chair Audit Committee and asked for a volunteer to serve with him.  Rosalie Stroman volunteered.

Ferial Bishop moved that the Unit purchase a $50.00 half-page ad for the program booklet of the DCAP annual meeting.  Following debate amendment, the motion was adopted as follows: That the Unit purchase a $50.00 half-page ad for the program booklet of the DCAP annual meeting, that the ad be black and white, and that it be the same design as last year except for a change in the theme.  Marjorie Vaughan volunteered to prepare the ad and, without objection, it was agreed that the treasurer will issue a check for the cost of the ad.

Education Program.  The Unit’s vice-president, Ferial Bishop, introduced Rose Acker-McIver, vice-president of DCAP, who conducted a workshop on the topic “Appeal From the Decision of the Chair.”

Announcements.    Rose Acker-McIver announced that the deadline to register for the DCAP annual meeting is March 11th, that the security form for Fort McNair is due two weeks before the meeting, and that she will check to see if electronic signatures will be acceptable on the security form.

Draft MINUTES

Call to Order: The regular meeting of the Registered Unit was called to order by the president, John Tatum, PRP on September 11, 2016, at the Dorothy Height/Benning Public Library, meeting Room #2.    The meeting convened at 2:30 p.m. Marjorie Vaughan, PRP, served as secretary pro tem.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America led by the president, was recited by all.

Installation of Officers:  Newly elected officers for the 2016-2017 term were installed by Rosalie Stroman, PRP.   Marjorie Vaughan stood in for Betty Tunstall, PRP who was absent while Mary Grant represented Rose Acker-McIver, PRP who was also absent. 

The new officers for the 2016-2017 term, are:

Ferial Bishop PRP, Vice-President
Betty Tunstall, Secretary, and
Rose Acker-McIver Treasurer

Welcome:   The president welcomed the group and asked attendees to share one highlight of their Summer break.

Reading and Approval of the Minutes:   The minutes were read and approved ad corrected.

  1. President Tatum gave an oral report.  The DCAPU website, DCRPU.com is operational. 

Committee Reports:   

There were no committee reports, however Marjorie Vaughan volunteered to serve as chair of the Arrangements Committee and Mary Grant volunteered to serve with Jason Morgan, PRP (chair) on the Website Committee.

Overview of the National Training Conference: (NTC) in Broomfield, Colorado.

Three members (Ferial Bishop, Rosalie Stroman and Marjorie Vaughan) who attended the training conference gave brief accounts of the workshops they attended.

New Business:  

There was no new business.

Educational Session:  Ferial Bishop introduced Dr. Mary Grant, who presented on the topic of “Suspending the Rules.”

Announcement: 

  1. Parliamentary Law Day observance will be held on Saturday, October 29th, 2016 at the Largo Community College, Largo Maryland.  A flyer is forthcoming.

Call to Order: The regular meeting of the Registered Unit was called to order by the president, Barbara Miller, PRP on April 10, 2016, at the Dorothy Height/Benning Public Library. The meeting started at 2:30 p.m.   Secretary Marjorie Vaughan, PRP was present.

Inspirational Reading: given by Mary Grant, PRP.

Welcome and Introduction:  President Miller welcomed the group.  Rose Acker-McIver was congratulated for successfully completing the Registered Examination.  Mary Grant was also congratulated for her achievement of the status of Professional Registered Parliamentarian.

April 24, 2015

The District of Columbia Registered Parliamentarians Unit (DCRPU) held it’s annual meeting on April 12, 2015 and also celebrated Parliamentary Law Month. Mr. Joseph Hairston, Esq. was the guest speaker. He presented on the Term Theme: P3 (Parliamentarians Preparing and Practicing) Series: Preparing and Working as a Parliamentarian “Then and Now”. His shared memorable parliamentarian experiences were very interesting and profound. The unit presented Mr. Hairston with a certificate of appreciation.

EVENTS

On April 14, 2015 the Education and Registration Committee of the District of Columbia Association of Parliamentarians and members of the District of Columbia Registered Parliamentarians Unit (DCRPU) presented a parliamentary procedure workshop to the newly elected leaders and officers of the Howard University Association of Student Organizations.

DCRPU members presented the following parliamentary topics: “Order of Business-Agenda” and “Do’s and Don’ts of Minute Taking” (by Barbara C. Miller, PRP); and “Steps in Handling a Motion” (by Ferial S. Bishop, PRP). Calvin Ferrell, RP, served as the timekeeper. Handouts were distributed to the students and many were left for dissemination to other students not in attendance.

The presentations were well received and the students were engaging. We are scheduled to present a more detailed parliamentary workshop on August 7, 2015, also on the university campus.

CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the DCRPU was held on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Dorothy Height/Benning Neighborhood Public Library located at 3539 Benning Road NE, Washington DC 20019, Conference Room #2.
The meeting was called to order at 2:30 P.M. by President, Barbara C. Miller, PRP. Secretary Marjorie Vaughan, PRP was present.
INSPIRATION: An inspirational reading was done by Rosalie H. Stroman, PRP.

REPORTS OF OFFICERS: The president reported on her activities since the last meeting:
– attended the Biennial NAP District Two Conference held in Gaithersburg Maryland, October 3-5, 2014 and served on the Tellers and Think Tank committees,
– provided the Inspirational Reading at 2014 PLD Conference,
– DCAP Ed and Registration Committee quarterly report forwarded to DCAP Pres.
– completed term as the McCaskill Unit Secretary,
– coedited NAP’s Exceptions to the Rules, with Michael Swift, PRP, CPP-T, and
– co-instructor on Parliamentary Procedure and Practice for students at the University of Delaware.
The secretary reported on the following:
– attended the District Two Conference held in Gaithersburg, Maryland, October 3 – 5, 2014,
– conducted a parliamentary procedure workshop for Judiciary Club ITC,
– attended Parliamentary Law Day, October 25, 2014,
– conducted a parliamentary workshop for Council 11, ITC on October 30, 2014 and
– attended the renaming of the Sartell – Tunstall Unit on October 24, 2014.
OTHER REPORTS: Director, Darlene T. Allen reported that:
– a survey on the District Two conference had been sent out and she was awaiting the result of that survey,
– the District Two Newsletter is expected out in the near future,
– The Director was in the process of concluding the Registered Parliamentarian’s Training Sessions.
– preparation is being made for the Professional Registered Parliamentarian’s course which is scheduled to be held in Arlington Virginia.
– time to renew membership dues.
Unfinished Business: The president reported that $75.00 remained from the gift certificate. The Unit purchased a gavel and sounding block, US Flag and Flag Etiquette book. The president also made a motion that “the Unit spend an amount not to exceed $15.00 for the engraving of its name and founding date on the gavel” Motion carried by unanimous consent.
PROGRAM: Freddie Colston, PRP introduced the Speaker, Mona Calhoun, PRP and DCAP Treasurer. The presenter spoke on the topic of working as a parliamentarian with emphasis on serving professionally. Mrs. Calhoun covered a wide range of subjects ranging from obtaining clients, interviewing clients, the initial contact, serving and closing the deal to follow-up on contacts. Tools of the trade were discussed, showing the importance of materials including documents and equipment necessary for successful and efficient meetings.
ANNOUNCEMENT: The renaming of the Sartwell Unit to the Sartwell-Tunstall Unit on November 24, 2014 at the Watha T. Daniel /Shaw Library, 1630 7th Street, NW Washington, DC.
Freddie Colston will be the speaker for the DCRPU February meeting.
